The Optimist Oratorical Contest gives youngsters the chance to speak to the world. More than $150,000 in college scholarships are awarded annually from this program.

First conducted in 1928, this is the second most popular Optimist International Program. Nearly 2,000 clubs participate in this program each year. The winners at the Club level receive medallions and Zone winners receive a plaque. Districts have the opportunity to provide two $2,500 scholarships or a first place scholarship of $2,500, a second place scholarship of $1,500, and a third place scholarship of $1,000.

Speak-Off Contests

Competitors will participate in a series of "Speak-off Contests" with the finalists moving forward to participate in the next highest level speak-off. These speak-off contests are scheduled so that the finalists will compete in a District speak-off sometime in May 2012:

We can help you set up a local Kis Speak Out public speaking club or an oratorical speak-off competition in your local community.

If you have local expertise who would like to help us expand our efforts to get our youth to get active with public speaking, or you would like to volunteer to help us out ... we would really like to speak with you.

We also offer training workshops at our quarterly District Meetings. I invite you to attend a workshop and meet other Optimists who share your interests to run a local oratorical contest or to sponsor a youth for Optimist Oratorical Competitions.
