Childhood Cancer Campaign

"Providing the Care...Finding the Cure"

Did you know that each year more than 12,000 children and teenagers will be diagnosed with cancer? Did you also know that one in every 330 Americans develops cancer before the age of 20? Because of statistics such as these, Optimist Clubs are encouraged to participate in this program by building awareness of the disease, providing assistance for children and their families, and supporting research to find a cure.

Childhood Cancer Campaign

In December 2001, the Optimist International Board of Directors established the CCC as the organization's primary focus program for five years. In 2005, the Board of Directors extended the primary focus of the Childhood Cancer Campaign for an additional five years. The CCC program model is built to accentuate four areas of service on which members can focus:

For more in-depth CCC information, check out the CCC Overview or the CCC Operations Manual. For more information about the CCC's commitment to research, check out the Johns Hopkins Partner in Cancer Research Initiative.

The CCC program is designed for member involvement on the District, Zone and Club levels. Each District and Club is asked to appoint a CCC chair. All CCC Club resource materials are applicable to JOOI members as well. Program materials and resources related to CCC can be accessed through this website by clicking on the highlighted links or by contacting the Programs Department of Optimist International.

Matching grants for the Childhood Cancer Campaign are available for Optimist Clubs in Canada. Clubs and Districts can apply now for consideration. To apply, please fill out the application below and then fax or mail the completed form to Optimist International. For your convenience, the application is available in .pdf and .doc versions:
